Excerpt From Chattanooga News-Free Press Correspondent, Fall of 1972:

Forty eight cyclists gathered in the early morning grayness of Sequatchie Valley Saturday to compete in the First Annual Sequatchie Valley Century Ride. By the time the grueling 100 mile ride was over, Chip Davis was the Leader. Second was Tom Pride, president of the club.

Bernadette Hilbrandt, Chattanooga, with a time of 9 hours, 24 minutes, won the prize for first female cyclist to finish the Century.

In all, 27 riders finished the 100 mile bicycle ride, with 17 finishing the accompanying 50 mile run.

All finishers receive award patches from the League of American Wheelmen, which sanctioned the event.
